Day Out | The Forbidden Corner
Myself and Will have been making the most of this lovely weather this weekend! Yesterday we had a walk into York and today we headed to the Forbidden Corner which is in Leyburn, Yorkshire Dales.
The Forbidden Corner claims to be one of the strangest places in the world. We had both never been before but heard a lot of people saying it’s really good so thought with it being a nice day we would try it!
You have to book in advance, but it’s really easy. You either pop onto their website or ring them up. I think this is a great idea as it allows them to control the amount of people that are in the park as there’s nothing worse than going somewhere that’s so over crowded so you can’t get anywhere.
Once you get there, you’re given a leaflet which shows all the various things to find. If you come with children you’re also given a sheet of paper where you find different coins and do rubbings of them. There’s no map to follow, you literally have to follow your nose!
You start by going into what appears to be a massive mouth.. very strange! You end up at an area where there’s loads of different paths and have to work out which way you want to go! We started by going down some stairs into what was like a little castle, but somehow ended up at the top after going up some tiny stairs! You got some lovely views of the dales from up there, but the hardest part was getting down! It was really steep and you ended up in a really dark tunnel. I won’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it for people who go! 🙂
There are a lot of bits where it’s quite dark, which I think is one of the reasons that children can find it quite scary. We were walking down a tight tunnel which was really dark and a kid walked out on me making me scream! He found it amusing haha… There’s also a lot of parts were you will get wet. Sometimes you aren’t aware it’s going to happen! I was one of the unlucky ones to get absolutely soaked on the stepping stone part thinking I was going to be able to avoid it.. wrong!
Here’s a few more photos from our visit below!
It’s definitely a great day out, whether you want to go out with your family, as a couple or with some friends. There’s a picnic area which was full of people and there’s also a cafe which seemed reasonably priced. There’s also a lovely little garden area at the end with an ice cream shop which was busy with people today!
Let me know of any good days out you’ve been on!
